President Saakashvili attends 42nd international conference in Munich

Today President Mikheil Saakashvili is attending a 42nd international conference "Peace through Dialogue" in Munich where foreign and defense ministers from 35 countries are discussing world security issues.
Today President Mikheil Saakashvili met with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

Yesterday President Saakashvili made 15 minutes address at the dinner dedicated to the conference and talked about Georgia's role in the implementation of the general security policy. President Saakashvili also discussed the Rose Revolution, conflict regions and Georgia-Russia relationships.

"I think that one of the most prominent leaders of the 20 century was Konrad Adenauer. The words he said about Germany after the Second World War sounds like this: "We are a small and ruined country; we won't be able to do anything alone. We must not be a desert island between the west and the east when we have friends. Yet, we have a dangerous neighbor in the east". These words are not germane to our country from the geographic point of view; however this massage is absolutely relevant to Georgia. Georgia, like Ukraine, with its similar aims and desires is the constituent part of Europe," President Saakashvili said.

Yesterday evening President Saakashvili with the Georgian government representatives met with the US Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and discussed security and cooperation issues as well as Georgia's future NATO membership.
