The President of Georgia attended the Eastern Partnership Summit. A joint declaration, regarding the simplification of the visa system between Georgia and the European Union, intensifying of multidirectional cooperation and the negotiation regarding the Free Trade Agreement with the EU beginning before the end of the year was signed. The declaration also envisions denser relations in terms of transportation, including inclusion of Georgia into the common airspace of the European Union. 

The leaders of the European countries made statements regarding their support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. The Prime Minister of France – Francois Fillon stressed that, France will not compromise regarding the issue of the territorial integrity of Georgia with the Russian Federation.

The President of the European Parliament – Jerzy Buzek drew attention to the economic partnership of the EU and Georgia and stated that: “The European Union is ready to invest in order to open its market gradually and help Georgia implement initiatives in the economic sphere”

According to the President of the European Council – Herman Van Rompuy – the new phase of relations with Georgia has begun and the negotiations regarding free trade with Georgia and Moldova are scheduled to begin before the end of 2011.

The President of the European Commission – Jose Manuel Barroso also touched on the issue of Georgia and noted that the beginning of talks regarding free trade with Georgia is a huge responsibility for the EU.

Deepening relations with the European Union was the main purpose of gathering the 6 representatives of Eastern European countries.
