President Saakashvili interviewed on CNN

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was interviewed live from Brussels by CNN on 28 February. During the 10-minute interview Saakashvili discussed NATO integration, Russian-Georgian relations and the territorial conflicts in South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Saakashvili also spoke about Georgia's future development and the current state of the country's economy, drawing special attention to recent economic growth.
"Georgia is approaching NATO standards at a very fast pace. Our country is quickly traversing the difficult path to Euro-Atlantic integration by achieving high economic growth and reducing corruption to a minimum," he said.

The president noted that Georgia's geopolitical location made it very attractive for foreign investors. He also touched on the development of the country's infrastructure: "Georgia is undergoing an economic revival at a time when Russia has imposed political and economic sanctions on us. In the near future Georgia will come to resemble Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai and will have no equal in the Black Sea region."

During the interview the Georgian president spoke about the successes the country has achieved in the political, economic and social spheres. He pointed out that the World Bank named Georgia the world's number one implementer of economic reforms in 2006.

"Georgia has a great chance to become a model for other countries, but despite all these victories and successes, the country continues to experience problems - conflict regions and relations with the Kremlin," he said, adding that Russia was capable of playing a positive role in the settlement of the conflicts.

Saakashvili concluded his Brussels visit and returned to Georgia on 28 February.
