The President of Georgia met the Minister of Justice

Today the President of Georgia met the Minister of Justice Nick Gvaramia at the state chancellery. According to the statement made by the President the well known Ortachala Prison will be destroyed and new prison will be built on its place, equipped with contemporary gear. Mikheil Saakashvili and Nick Gvaramia spoke about amnesty of the prisoners. By the initiative of the President the list will be once again re-evaluated. "We have to use the amnesty in a wider way so that not to harm our society. We need to focus our attention on the fact, that when these prisoners are out, they do not have to create any threat to our people. They should get used to the society. The main problem is that a person does not get better in prison. So we have to issue certain amount of money, to give these people some basic professions. A person coming out of prison should be ready to work. We have to organize education issue for the under aged children " - stated the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.

As the President of Georgia mentioned, the Ortachala prison is a very old prison and it is not in line with the contemporary standards any more, so we have to create some basic conditions for prisoners. Mikheil Saakashvili stated that it is necessary to distribute these people to different prisons. "A lot of historical injustice is connected to this prison. This is the prison where people were executed by shooting. On 50th anniversary it will be a very symbolic gesture, to free this prison and to destroy it finally. We need to destroy the Ortachala prison in upcoming weeks and we need to place our prisoners in better conditions." - stated Mikheil Saakashvili.

Today the President of Georgia approved Nick Gvaramia's initiative on getting the passports locally. From today on the mobile groups will work on this issue. For those people, who are not able to travel to the cities, will be brought IDs on their locations. Mikheil Saakashvili has protested the problems existing on getting the death certificates.

"Many people have no passports, our aim is to give passports to every person in small villages. If they can't come to get the passports, we need to go and bring the passports to them. The government should serve them locally. We have celebrated the fact that IDs got free of charge. Now we found out that there are some serious bureaucratic problems on getting the death certificates. We speak about poor and undefended population, the majority of whom cannot get this certificate, we urge a person who is under stress to go through these strange procedures.

Together with the Ministry of Health we need to eliminate all these problems concerning charges and simplifying the procedures once and forever. There is one thing I still can't understand. If the ministry of Health can't treat and save people, how can they charge money for death certificates? This is immoral and once and forever we need to eliminate and solve these type of problems." - stated the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
