The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili attended the government session

The closed session of Minister's Cabinet was held in President's chancellery today. The President of Georgia chaired the session. The present economic situation and fulfillment of the projects of this direction as well as future plans were discussed at this session. It was noted that work in several directions must be strengthened and the potential exists in Georgia, it is necessary to develop agriculture and increase the chances of export.

"An industrial base in agriculture must be created, on the one hand agricultural potential is practically not used and this is mainly one of the problems and on the other hand we have a possibility to use this potential. Shares of agriculture in the recent period used to decrease in the common internal products and this is of course not normal", stated the President.

Mikheil Saakashvili named concrete figures - how many tones of apples, tangerines, grapes and potatoes are produced in Georgia. How much is used locally and what is the import.

The President of Georgia stated that there exists a backward agricultural base. It is necessary to keep prices on small credit programs and the prices on agricultural products with foreigners, at the same time it is necessary to work on the stimulation of production.

In the recent weeks Georgia proved that in spite of internal and external attempts, it is a stable country", stated Mikheil Saakashvili at the government session held at the state chancellery.

Mikheil Saakashvili said that it was a real discovery for many people that Georgia is a stable, developing country.

Mikheil Saakashvili tasked the government to have only one aim - to turn Georgia into an oasis, from the economic perspective. "Economically this is the most correctly formed country", stated Mikheil Saakashvili.

This is proved by the fact that according to the World Bank evaluations Georgia is the major reformatory country in the last five years.

At today's session Mikheil Saakashvili pointed that the last visits abroad aimed to meet the large industrial groups and he added that he would continue such visits again in order to put Georgia on the right path.

Mikheil Saakashvili stated that despite the world financial crisis and occupation Georgia still has a chance to attract investments and have perspective of long-term development.

The President of Georgia spoke about the potential of the energy sector.

He noted that in spite of the world economic crisis Georgia is among top ten countries, which maintained flow of investments, world crisis slowed down the process of increasing the investments.

Mikheil Saakashvili spoke about energy projects and specifically on the construction of the hydroelectric stations.

He said that foreign investments should be subsided by the local capital in the long perspective. Energy projects give a possibility to Georgia to increase export and from this point of view Georgia has a serious potential to sell produced energy.
