The President of Georgia met with the U.S. Army Europe commander Lieutenant General Mark P. Hertling

 

The President of Georgia met with the U.S. Army Europe commander Lieutenant General Mark P. Hertling today. The existing support in the military sphere was the main topic of discussion. The sides also focused attention on the future relations between the two countries. They spoke about Georgia’s important contribution in terms of security. Mark Hertling stressed the courage, devotion, and professionalism of the Georgian soldiers participating in the ISAF mission. According to the Lieutenant General, the Georgian contingent is the most distinguished in this regard. Lieutenant General Hertling also spoke about the details of the meeting with the wounded Georgian Captain, Alexandre Tugushi.

“This is a soldier, who was severely wounded and he was still taking care of his comrades in arms. Alex Tugushi is a brave person. He was as brave in the hospital as he was on the battlefield. He is a famous person in the United States where he is getting medical care now. He is a hero for the entire Georgian nation” – noted the American General.

Lieutenant General Mark P. Hertling will depart from Georgia on July 18th.

The U.S. Army Europe Commander is responsible for coordinating operations of the US Army in 51 countries. The US Army Europe is training and controlling the armed forces in Europe to support the American commanders and the headquarters in Europe as well as global missions. Aside from this, the US Army Europe is strengthening the alliance, and forming partner opportunities, which is also expressed by the training of Georgian troops serving in Afghanistan, who go through training in Hohensfel Germany before the mission in Afghanistan.
