Mikheil Saakashvili opened a mountain ski resort “Gomarduli”

The President of Georgia opened a mountain ski resort “Gomarduli” in Adjara today, which was built through a joint initiative of public and private sectors. 5 modern hotel cottages have already been built in preparation to receive the first guests at the resort. According o Mikheil Saakashvili, this will become one of the most popular winter resorts like Bakuriani and Gudauri. It is also planned to build a ropeway and increase the number of ski slopes.

“Other ski resorts don’t currently have snow but it is snowing here. The snow is 3 meters higher than here at Goderdzi Pass where we are building French ropeways, one of the main attractions of Georgia. The mountains of Adjara, because of no decent roads were a social disaster zone which has now been revived. This has been the hope throughout the years. It is the merit of the government and the efforts of local people. The population of a place, which has a ski resort, cannot live in poverty. We have to forget about poverty once and for all” – stated Mikheil Saakashvili and added that gasification will take place soon and there will be at least 100 cottages and 100 hotels in Gomarduli in the future.

A 1200 meter ski slope is already installed in Gomarduli. The government plans to further develop the resort infrastructure, expand the ski slopes, and install a ropeway in the future.
