The President of Georgia expressed deep sorrow regarding the death of Vaclav Havel

The President of Georgia expressed deep sorrow regarding the death of the first President of the Czech Republic – Vaclav Havel. Mikheil Saakashvili stated that Georgia has lost a great friend in Vaclav Havel. The Head of State drew attention to the great merit of Vaclav Havel to Georgia. Mikheil Saakashvili noted that Vaclav Havel had expressed huge support of Georgia during difficult times for the country and the Georgian nation will never forget it.

“Vaclav Havel was one of the greatest leaders of not only the 20th century but of our time as well. He was a person that gave birth to the wave of Anti-Communist revolutions that spread across Europe. Vaclav Havel was an incredibly important friend of Georgia. During the time of Russian aggression, elements (of course a minority) which tried to justify the actions of the aggressor appeared in Europe and they were trying to blame Georgia but Vaclav Havel made a firm statement back then and played an important role in the process. He was not only a great intellectual, but also a great leader of his own country as well as for Europe. We must never forget what Vaclav Havel did during the most difficult times for Georgia” – stated the President of Georgia.
