The President of Georgia met the Prime Minister of Canada

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili held his first meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper in Lisbon within the frames of NATO Summit. The Prime Minister underlined the importance of Georgia's role in Afghan NATO operation and stated that he welcomes Georgia's Euro-Atlantic Aspirations.

"I really appreciate efforts you have made in Afghanistan and also your aspirations to join the Alliance", Stephen Harper stated.

Mikheil Saakashvili stated that Georgian troops would remain in Afghanistan until the mission is accomplished.

"Mr. Prime-minister we love Canada in Georgia; not only because, it is a great country, but it has been paying great attention to our region. It has been outspoken in the forms of values and it is a great ally in Afghanistan. You know, we are second biggest per capita contributors in Afghanistan, in terms of number of troops, we have been fighting alongside with Americans, Canadians, with British and we are going to stay there until the mission is accomplished", Mikheil Saakashvili stated.
