President Saakashvili addresses Security Council meeting

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili today attended a meeting of the National Security Council, where the discussion centred around plans to create a temporary administrative unit on the territory of the former Autonomous Region of South Ossetia.

"Over the past few days Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanadze, as well as several groups of majority and opposition MPs have held talks on the creation of a temporary administrative unit for the Tskhinvali region with representatives of a public political organization in the region. This temporary administrative unit is an administrative entity for a transitional period whose ultimate aim, if everything goes well, is the establishment of full-fledged autonomy and the final resolution of the conflict.

"The time has come for us to go from word to deed already this week and submit the issue to parliament. It was necessary to involve MPs in this process because this is a national political process and should include not only the executive government, but also the Georgian parliament and all major political forces without exception," Saakashvili said at the meeting.
