President Saakashvili also spoke with the future Vice-President of the United States, Joseph Biden and thanked him for his initiative of issuing 1 billion USD in support of Georgia in the aftermath of the war. This donation was approved by the Congress of the United States in September. Senator Biden was also one of the first people to arrive in Tbilisi during the August war to show his long time support for the Georgian nation and its strive for independence.
